| | Review: A Fine Start
| At present, this is a very limited review because I've only just ordered this book based on the Look Inside feature. Even though I'm not a beginner, I ordered it on general principles to support what appears to be a fine work. I will augment this review once I've received and read this book. Let me explain why I'm doing this:
Years ago I had a friend who was an avid Hearts and Spades player, but he wanted to learn Bridge. After two months of struggling, he finally came to me and said that he just couldn't understand the bidding process. The numbers involved made no sense to him at all. Turned out that he did not know that the bidding numbers began after six, i.e., that a bid of one meant 6+1=7 tricks that the bidder was committing to take. I checked all of my elementary bridge books and not one of them actually stated this. Since then, I've kept checking elementary books, and now, finally, I've found once that makes this most-elementary point clear.
So Audrey gets 5 stars from me to start with, book yet unseen. And I have a feeling that after a full review she's going to keep them all. |

| | Review: great for beginners!!
| | We bought this book for a newly formed bridge club - we have two veteran players, two beginners, and two novice-intermediate players. This book has been great to get the beginners up to speed quickly and to be able to engage in basic play with all members of our little club. We bought her companion "cheat sheet" as well (bridge at a glance), which helps in the heat of play if we've forgotten something. It has given us the basics for all of our players to improve their play and learn more advanced skills. |

| | This book really does cover the basics of bridge. It is well organized and easy to follow. There are quizzes at the end of the chapters which provide a good review. I would definitely recommend it. |

| | This is a good book for the basics in bridge. Our small group has played bridge for years but are crossing over to duplicate and this is the first book we will study. |
